Using a vision system, the sorter can detect spots on various types of products.
The system consists of two conveyor belts; the first horizontal and the second tilted.

The DUETT is manufactured in two sizes for low/middle capacity, with a belt approximately 1 m wide ( DUETT 100 ).
The system allows the installation of one or multiple cameras; depending on speed, resolution and colour requirements.
All the electrical components and panels are cooled by an air conditioned system to guarantee high durability and the best performance in the worst working conditions.
The vision system
The sorter works by means of a line-scan high speed camera system with high resolution, which inspects the product on the conveyor belt.
The image analysis is carried out by an electronic board that utilizes the newest technologies of integration and speed, designed by Protec to guarantee the best performances. Combined with powerful software for image enhancement, it can detect defects as small as 1 x 1 mm. If the customer requires greater resolution, it is possible to double this resolution up to 0.5 x 0.5 mm.
The product is illuminated by LEDs (Light Emitting Diode), whose fundamental characteristics are: high efficiency, product penetration depth, light diffusion in the product and durability.
Depending on the type of product and sorting required, the machine can be equipped with a back light and infrared light for NIR analysis.
The sorter is also equipped with a backlighting device below the belt, for a better detection of the defects.
The powerful software allows for the product to be surveyed at a high speed using microprocessors (µP), digital signal enhancers (DSP) and programmable Gate Array (FPGA).
The use of surface-mounted technology (SMT) allows the presence of a high number of electrical components in small spaces and higher reliability of the circuits and components.

The conveying belt
The conveying system consists of two belts, one horizontal and one vertically tilted .
For the best sorting results, the product should be evenly spread on the belt. We recommend the use of a dedicated system that allows excellent distribution of product as it is fed onto the belt.
The ejection system
The product which is identified as no-good is ejected by a system of high speed air blasts. The ejectors are spaced 6 mm apart.
The number of ejectors ranges from 96 to 176, depending on the size.
The smart software can control the number of the ejectors working for each defect.
This allows more than one ejector to be activated for defects that are greater than the ejector's pitch.
Supervision and man-machine interface
The sorter is equipped with a PC with Touch Screen interface which allows the user to supervise all operations.
The installed user-friendly software allows the maintenance staff to monitor all the functions:
settings, rejects level, air pressure, alarms, water temperature, motor activation, timing and belt speed.
All functions can be done either automatically or manually. The critical system functions are password-protected to prevent unwanted interference.
Connectivity
It is possible to use a local area network (LAN) in order to connect to an industrial control system or operator control panel.
The machine was created with the capability of having an on board modem and software for remote help and diagnostics in order to check to equipment operation from an off-site location using a dial up connection.
